Women’s Aid Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne & Newtownabbey (ABCLN) would like to thank staff and 6th form pupils from Ulidia Integrated College for their generous donation of £415 towards the Make It Better Appeal.

Teacher, Rosie McKee explained ‘Staff and 6th form pupils gave up eating chocolate for the month of January to raise funds for the Make It Better Appeal. Students also took part in a Domestic Violence awareness session, which they found beneficial on how to identify the early warning signs within an abusive relationship. We work closely with Women’s Aid and wanted to acknowledge the great work they do within the local community’.

Ruth Owen, Fundraising Co-ordinator with Women’s Aid ABCLN paid tribute by saying, ‘Women’s Aid ABCLN would like to thank Ulidia Integrated College for their fundraising support. Domestic Violence affects 1 in 4 families and with your support we can continue providing services to women and children affected by Domestic Violence in the local community’.

The funds donated will help to provide emotional and practical support to children and young people whose education has been affected by domestic violence. Constant change, disruption and violence in a young person’s life can make school a real challenge and diminish their ability to engage. Young people are the hidden victims of domestic violence and are significantly at risk of school dropout, exclusion and risk taking behaviours.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence can also access support by calling the 24hr Domestic & Sexual Violence Helpline on 0808 802 1414.
