DO ONE THING... MAKE IT BETTER

For children and young people living with domestic violence

Women’s Aid Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne, and Newtownabbey (ABCLN) have embarked on a new project, Make It Better. We provide services to children and young people who’s education has been affected by domestic violence. Constant change, disruption and violence in a young person’s life can make school a real challenge and diminish their ability to engage. Young people are the hidden victims of domestic violence and are significantly at risk of school dropout, exclusion and risk taking behaviours.

The programmes offer practical and emotional support, working with children and young people that are at risk of underachieving in school. Our aim is to re-engage them in education and learning by providing practical resources and educational support. Opportunities are provided to children and young people enabling them to achieve their full potential and more importantly providing a safe place to learn free from violence, abuse, and threat.

Women’s Aid ABCLN has set up the Make It Better Appeal to raise funds to provide services for children and young people living with domestic violence. Through our Make It Better fundraising week from 20th – 26th May 2013, we aim to raise enough funds to continue providing these services.
